Budding Marine engineers in Eday
Posted: 11/03/2014

Three Crofting Connections primary schools in Orkney came together in Eday in February to take part in the Junior Saltire Prize.

Primary 5 to 7 pupils from Eday, Papa Westray and North Ronaldsay Schools worked closely with Orkney technology expert and STEM ambassador, William McEwen.  Over 2 days they designed and built prtotypes of tidal turbines which were then presented to the public. While the older pupils were being inventive the younger children back in the schools were busy investigating water and wind powered boats involving lots of straws, elastic bands and the school house bath.
